Mayor slams Esplanade hoons
New Norfolk residents are angry after yet another hooning incident on the local Esplanade.
Early on Sunday morning a silver sedan was witnessed doing doughnuts on the grassed area after gaining access from a removed bollard near the old devil jet powerboat pavilion.
Police were called by a local at around 3.30 am only to be allegedly told that there were no patrol cars available at the time.
New Norfolk residents continue to ask questions about the local police presence, especially making reference to the new Police Station not being manned 24/7.
Derwent Valley Mayor Michelle Dracoulis has slammed the perpretators.
"Whoever did this has displayed a numbing level of thoughtlessness and stupidity," the Mayor said.
"It's embarrassing for our town and witnessed by hundreds of people who've travelled across the State to attend the Regatta.
"I also feel for the kids having their grade 10 end of year photos next week now on grounds that have been visibly trashed.
"This behaviour makes the rest of us look bad and I'm sick of it."
Tas Police continues to encourage anyone who sees any kind of crime, antisocial behaviour or hooning to ring 131 444 and report it to Crime Stoppers.
