Adam Rice is switching out his fishing rod for the pen as he joins the Derwent Valley Gazette team.

But don’t worry, he still plans to cast his lure whenever he gets a chance.

Regular readers of the Tasmanian Country would be well aware of Adam’s work through his weekly fishing column, providing hot tips and vital information for avid anglers.

Adam has become a regular contributor to the Derwent Valley Gazette, reporting on the latest news and issues from the region.

Having only started a couple of weeks ago, he has already written about the potential permanent closure of the Bushy Park Pool and the return of a beloved New Norfolk laundromat.

Adam is already well-known in the Derwent Valley community as a life member of the New Norfolk Licensed Anglers Association.

First picking up a rod at the age of five, he has vast experience and knowledge of the Tasmanian fishing landscape.

“I think one of the most important things, in life as well as fishing, is being patient,” Adam said.

“What I’ve learned is that you will get a result, as long as you’re willing to play a long game.

“As far as the fish is concerned, keep your cards close to your chest.

“Don’t act hastily… patience is your closest ally.”
