Clean slate for newly reopened laundromat

The Derwent Valley municipality received a welcome boost last week with the re-opening of the recently refurbished laundromat in High Street New Norfolk.
New owners, locals Shemi Rubin and Ngaire Melhop cut the red ribbon of White Wallaby Laundry Services on September 6, showcasing its services which includes a total shop rebuild that offers six new washing machines and five dryers for public use.
Shemi said White Wallaby Laundry Services is proud to provide this much needed asset to locals and visitors to the Derwent Valley and he was passionate about the project.
"If you're not passionate about helping people, bringing people together and bringing positivity to your surroundings, what else is there to be passionate about,” he said.
Labor MHA for Derwent Craig Farrell was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony plus there were demonstrations of how to use the new machines with updated cashless payment options as well as giveaways and meet and greets for the public.
The new laundromat service is also pet friendly which even provides a machine to wash specifics like bedding or the clothing of your great mates.
In the past the Laundromat was a well-used and loved asset of New Norfolk which sadly had to be closed down.
However, Shemi and Ngaire took the initiative of taking on the big task of its redevelopment with the help of local tradies and loyal supporters.
Ultimately laundromats have evolved from simple wash spaces to what are now high-tech, socially engaging environments that offer a combination of efficiency, convenience, and environmental awareness which is a long way from how laundry was done in the past.
“Laundromats make the tedious task of doing the washing a lot easier and having one in any community offers options to people of all walks of life whether locals or tourists who are just visiting the valley of love,” Dshemi said.
White Wallaby Laundry also offer other services like cleaning doonas, blankets, mattress toppers and pillows, and they also offer linen hire, ironing and wash-dry-fold options, as well as pick up and delivery, or you can drop items off yourself.
The laundry service is available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday by appointment only by calling 0480 350 864 and the Laundromat is open from 7am to 9pm daily.
