Dracoulis to contest State election

Derwent Valley Mayor Michelle Dracoulis will contest the State election as an independent candidate.
"After careful consideration, and with the nod from my incredibly supportive husband and kids, I can now announce that I’ll be contesting the upcoming Tasmanian State Election as an Independent Candidate," Ms Dracoulis said.
"I’m not a member of any political party, and I give my commitment that I will attempt to work constructively with all duly elected members for the betterment of our great state.
"I’ve demonstrated my commitment to community, and my resolve to tackle even the toughest of issues in the heaviest of political weather.
"This election will be an opportunity for us to draw a line in the sand – to have a say on the standards we accept, and the kind of future we would like to see for us all."
Ms Dracoulis was briefly a pre-selected candidate for Labor in Lyons before the 2024 State election before withdrawing her nomination.

Let's not forget about the Independent Review and it's 75 recommendations to be implemented over 12 months by the Mayor and GM. Or the Mayor's letter of support for New Norfolk Distillery to be given a special grant and gifting Willow Court to New Norfolk Distillery without the process in the Local Government Act of disposal of public land and free rent. How about the discussion of WHY Derwent Valley Arts was thrown out of Willow Court. These are questions our new Independent candidate needs to answer before anything else. She states stability, just have a look at the Derwent Valley Council. She has hardly bought stability and now when the work of implementing the reviews recommendations, she runs away and leaves it to our phantom Deputy Mayor.
