Fire has destroyed buildings connected to the historic 92-year-old Millbrook Rise Mental Health facility in New Norfolk in the early hours of this morning.

Brigades from New Norfolk, Magra, Molesworth, Bridgewater, and the Tasmanian Fire Service attended the structure fires after 1 am, using specialist firefighting equipment to fight blazes that were well alight by the time they arrived.

Investigations into how the fires started are ongoing, with exclusion zones in place and various brigade representatives still attending the smouldering and gutted buildings.

Originally called Millbrook Rise Psychopathic Home, the building/s were opened in 1934 by Governor Sir Ernest Clark, which catered for returning world war 1 veterans who suffered mental health issues and trauma from their time serving the Country.

Anyone with information about the fires or any suspicious activity is encouraged to contact Tasmania Police on 13 14 44 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
