Mayor calls hoons d***heads

Michelle Dracoulis has lashed out at “dickhead” hoons and warned them she will lobby Tasmania Police to crush the vehicles of offenders if it continues.
The Derwent Valley mayor’s comments came after she said there had been “another night of unchecked hooning” in the municipality on Thursday.
“It was scary for those indoors, and even scarier for those using the road properly,” Cr Dracoulis said.
“Nobody deserves to die due to a dickhead having their fun - not even the dickhead who’s driving.
“Reign it in guys - there are safe places to chuck a doughy that aren’t in the guts of town in the middle of a public road.
“Nobody’s impressed, and I’ll be advocating for the police to crush cars if this keeps up.”
In August, Tasmania Police announced that extra wheel clamps were being rolled out across the state for hoons and those who commit dangerous driving offences.

Crushing Cars
Crushing cars sounds tough but its a bit of an overreach. While the law does allow for it following forfeiture, there needs be a convicton/court order. It isn't up to the police or a mayor to decide if that's the outcome, nor should it be. There are a lot of streets in our community that encourage hooning - Glebe Rd, for instance, is a 1km long, straight sealed road with no treatments to discourage antisocial behaviour, so we're subjected to speeding, hooning and animal carcasses.
