Bulls still growing after first winter

THIS  year Londavra Angus is offering a draft of 12 two year old bulls at the Tasmanian Angus Spring Sale.

We want to give buyers some indication of the size and growth in our bulls – and they haven’t stopped yet.

Our normal pattern of September/October calving makes getting yearling bulls ready for sale in spring very difficult in our cold winter climate, therefore we are offering two year olds. 

 We would much rather let them just grow through their first winter so at two year olds they are at their maximum working ability and can cover more cows than a yearling.

  Also you can see their growing potential as they mature.

The 12 bulls are by four sires – all of which are proven herd improvers.

Banquet Top Deck T020 has reached a weight of 1250 kg – he passes his structural soundness and softness onto his progeny.  

The Top Decks are strong headed, heavy boned, soft easy doing bulls with a lot of capacity.

Banquet Torney T008 – A taller bull whose progeny show the same growth pattern, he is out of the renowned Banquet Dream C489 cow. 

Torney calves carry plenty of frame, strong through the loin with strong heads and bone.

Texas Beast Mode Q725 – his sons are soft and easy fleshing with doing ability, and still maintain growth and frame to go with it.

Circle 8 Paratrooper R553 - he produces quality middle of the road calves that grow out.  

The Paratroopers are soft easy doing medium frame bulls showing length and quality.

Londavra runs a herd of medium to large frame cows that breed calves that stand up in the pens at store sale with a carcase that weighs heavily when they go through the meat works.  Heavy cows bring the high prices per kilo and give maximum return with the same applying to cull bulls.  Londavra sired steers perform particularly well for the Tasmanian Feedlot.

Londavra stud principal David Young aims to breed easy doing, functional cattle that suit the industry without chasing fads that come and go.

The cattle at Londavra are naturally reared on grass with no irrigation.  They contend with varying seasonal conditions and the fluctuations of mother nature.
