Dalrymple Vineyards has been named Best In Show at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards.

The Piper’s River-based winery took out the honour with its Single Site Estate Pipers River Pinot Noir 2024.

Dalrymple Vineyards Vigneron Peter Caldwell said the winery had built a reputation for Pinot Noir shaped by its cool maritime climate, producing wines defined by restraint, structure and site expression.

“Dalrymple Vineyards has been building and making its wine, drawing inspiration from Burgundy, to culminate in a style that respects Pinot Noir for what it is and for the attributes that make it one of the world’s greatest grape varieties,” Peter Caldwell said.

“What makes Dalrymple Vineyards unique is that it is a true expression of Tasmanian Terroir.”

“To receive this level of recognition from a European-based show like Decanter is a wonderful honour.”

The awards are considered among the highest honours in the winemaking world and is the biggest on Earth.

“Being recognised on that global stage, by an institution so highly regarded, makes it even more meaningful.

“To be able to share this moment with my team in the vineyard is incredibly special too. “We’re all very excited by the news, because they are such a big part of it.

“Everyone is standing a little taller at Dalrymple Vineyards today.”

Dalrymple Vineyard is part of the Hill-Smith Family Estates portfolio, with the organisation’s Robert Hill-Smith saying the award places the Tasmanian winery among the world’s best.

“Dalrymple Vineyards has had a strong footprint in Tasmanian winemaking since 1987,” Mr Hill-Smith said.

“Led by Vigneron Peter Caldwell’s fervour for single site expressions of Pinot Noir, the folio houses different terroirs across Tasmania.

“The Pipers River site, home to this award-winning wine, is alongside the original winery and has been meticulously managed by Caldwell to express the site's personality of the highest quality consistently.”
