TasFarmers Vegetable Council chairman Nathan Richardson said he expects an average harvest for producers tonnage-wise.

More than 615,000 tons of vegetables are produced in Tasmania each year, with around 450,000 of those being potatoes.

Mr Richardson said it had been a challenging 12 months for growers.

“We had tough planting and seasonal conditions in the last part of 2025, and that’s pretty much across the board for other crops we grow in Tasmania as well,” he said.

“It’ll be like most seasons – there’ll be some terrific results, and then there’ll be some challenging results – but that’s what you get when you grow stuff from Smithton to Ross and the East Coast.”
