GRADE 5-6 students from around the region showed their business savvy while participating in the Illuminate Community Challenge at Longford from June 17-20.

Organised by the Northern Midlands Council and NorthernMidlands Business Association, it was an exercise in inspiring business leaders of the future. Students from Cressy District High, Evandale Primary, Longford Primary, Perth Primary and Bracknell Primary Schools were pushed to think outside the box on a business proposal to put to a panel of judges.

They were given the task to identify something missing in the Northern Midlands and work as a team to generate a solution.

Their processes included brainstorming ideas, assessing how to market, looking at finances and preparing a pitch to present to the judges.

Cressy students said they wanted: A pump track; upgrades to the Campbell Town Pool; increasing engagement to the Campbell Town Show; and a go kart track They received the Best Pressure Cooker submission award (pump track), the Ideation Award (go karts), came second overall (Campbell Town Pool) and third overall (go karts).

Longford Primary School was the overall winner with its plan to overcome littering at the local riverside reserves.

Their solution was to challenge the community to pick up rubbish at the Mill Dam and use the items found for fun activities such as building the biggest bottle tower or making wall art.
