A long-established Victorian angus stud renowned for providing some of the country’s top quality semen has turned to Landfall Angus to improve its genetics and paid $165,000 for a bull at today’s spring bull sale.

Te Mania Angus, established in Australia by Andrew and Mary Gubbins with the importation to Australia of two young sires and 58 females from Mary’s brother in New Zealand, paid the top price at the sale for Lot 3, Landfall Riverside U227, a two-year-old bull sired by Landfall Lorenzo R411 from Landfall S846.

The beautifully quiet bull has had semen collected by Landfall and will feature in its spring program as well as enhancing the Te Mania stud stock.

Buyers came from around the country for the on-farm sale on the northern edge of Launceston while other potential buyers bidded remotely via AuctionsPlus.

Nutrien Ag Solutions senior livestock officer Warren Johnston said that the market met expectations with interest right up the eastern seaboard into Queensland for the 246 lots with a 100 percent clearance rate.

The 142 rising two-year-olds averaged $13,485 and 104 yearling bulls averaged $10,403, with a total average of $12,182.

“It was a great day, with bulls for everyone’s purpose at everyone’s price, and I think anyone looking for value for money walked away happy with bulls that matched their budget,” Mr Johnston said.
