Carlo Di Falco has been elected to state parliament, becoming the first Shooter, Fishers and Farmers Party member to get a seat in Tasmania’s Lower House.

As of Friday morning, Mr Di Falco had a 0.81 quota following the distribution of preferences in the electorate of Lyons.

The other successful candidates in the seat were the Liberals’ Guy Barnett, Jane Howlett and Mark Shelton; Labor’s Jen Butler and Brian Mitchell; and Tabatha Badger from the Greens.

Mr Di Falco said it would be an honour to serve in state parliament.

“It’s great because I can finally do something for the people I’ve been talking to,” he said.

“There’s a lot of stuff that I’ve heard that has just been heartbreaking.”

Mr Di Falco said he believed he did well because his constituents realised the SFF “were not a one-trick pony”.

“We’re not just shooters and we’re not just fishermen.

“Our heart is in the country and we’re there to give people like ourselves a voice.”

The SFF ran three candidates in the state election, with Michal Frydrych running in Bass and the party’s Tasmanian president Adrian Pickin contesting in Braddon.

Mr Pickin said its campaign was “run on the smell of an oily rag with no paid staff, no political machinery and no deep pockets”.

“We are 100 per cent volunteer-run and proud of it.”
