Boyer Oval and Tynwald Park's new football and soccer facilities were officially opened on Thursday with red ribbons cut by Federal Lyons MP Rebecca White and Derwent Valley Mayor Michelle Dracoulis.

The DV Council's CEO Wes Young was also present to witness the achievement with New Norfolk District Football Club President Steve Balmforth and New Norfolk Panthers Soccer Club President Jason Priest plus club officials, representatives and long time club supporters.

The 7.5 million dollar upgrades were partially funded by the Federal government who chipped in $5 million to the Derwent Valley Council who with ratepayers also contributed another $2.5 million for the projects.

Facilities at the home of the mighty Eagles at Boyer Oval had suffered over time and were not up to standard which is said to have impacted on potential player recruitment plus inhibited females from also training and playing football. The New Norfolk Panthers Soccer Club is also now proud to have their own modern facilities that will help the club attract more players plus provide opportunities for ongoing development and success with their junior and senior teams.

Boyer Ovals modernised, new spaces were constructed by TasBuilt Homes which now includes a fully kitted function area with kiosk and a bar plus change-rooms to cater for New Norfolk District Football Club and Molesworth Cricket Club teams. Similarly, At Tynwald Park, JMK Construction constructed the tilt-panel changeroom and its new function room for the New Norfolk Panthers Soccer Club.

Also at Tynwald Park, Basketball and netball enthusiasts will be pleased with rings also recently replaced.

Derwent Valley Mayor Michelle Dracoulis thanked now State Lyons MP Brian Mitchell during his time representing Federal Lyons for the role he played in helping secure the $5 million dollars of Federal funding for the facility upgrades.

In a statement the Mayor said  "These beautiful new community facilities will support local sport, families and the broader community for many years to come. They're also giving our clubs modern spaces that they can be proud of, and opportunities to fundraise and build strong, sustainable sporting communities into the future".

Michelle Dracoulis also thanked council staff, clubs, volunteers, contractors and everyone involved in helping bring these projects to life.

Both the New Norfolk District Football Club and New Norfolk Panther Soccer Club 2026 seasons are well underway and along with the Molesworth Cricket Club all male, female, senior and junior players, officials and supporters now have up to standard fit-for-purpose facilities to use well into the future.
