The sale of the Campbell Town Hall has been completed, marking an important new chapter for one of Campbell Town’s most valued and historic buildings.

The new owners, Phoebe and James Moncur, have expressed a strong appreciation for the heritage significance of the Hall and are looking forward to bringing renewed life and activity to the space.

Initial works will focus on essential maintenance, followed by plans to introduce new retail opportunities and office space that will contribute to the vibrancy of the town centre.

Importantly, Service Tasmania and the Campbell Town Information Centre will continue to operate from the building.

The Information Centre will retain its local museum, ensuring the ongoing celebration and preservation of Campbell Town’s history while the site evolves to meet contemporary community needs.

However, the bulk of the town’s museum collection is now in storage with a future home yet to be determined.

The Northern Midlands Council has welcomed the new owners’ commitment to respecting the hall’s heritage while introducing fresh uses that will support local activity and economic vitality.

“This balance of preservation and renewal represents an exciting opportunity for the Campbell Town community,” Mayor Mary Knowles said.

“Proceeds of approximately half a million dollars from the sale will be retained for use within the Campbell Town region.

“While no specific project has been earmarked at this time, Council will work closely with the community in the coming months to determine how the funds can be best invested for the benefit of the area.

“We look forward to seeing the hall continue to serve Campbell Town in new and meaningful ways, while remaining a proud symbol of the town’s history.”
