Sorell Deputy Mayor Charles Woolley has been forced to resign after moving outside of the municipality.

The council said it had notified the Tasmanian Electoral Commission and anticipated that a countback from the 2022 local government elections would likely fill the vacant position.

Sorell Mayor Janet Gatehouse said she was very sorry to see the former 60 Minutes journalist leave the council due to relocation.

“I will miss his considered worldly view on life, his contribution and support.

“There can’t be many Councils that have access to a lifetime of experience from a well-respected international journalist, and we have all benefited from him.

“He cares about doing the 'right' thing for the community and has deep affection for this municipality.”
