Results from Launceston Toyota Campdrafting State Finals

It's a good thing campdrafters are tough with an icy blast doing nothing to turn down the heat in the Launceston Toyota Campdrafting State Finals at Hawkridge Forest, Powranna on the weekend.

The Cleveland Pastoral Estates Open SuperDraft attracted 36 competitors all vying for the prestige of taking out the Open Championship.

At the end of two days filled with quality drafting,  club treasurer, Georgie Burbury from Campbelltown on her Austrlaian quarterhorse Wilmor Cowboy Up, came out on top with 172 points, from Tom Steele and Rosebrook Resolute from Lemont on 107.

Lucky Jackpot Sweep winners were Wendy Steele from Sandford and Jayden Chapman from Bothwell.

The Top Cut Out prize proved hard to get, with five horses on a cut out of 22 by the end of the event.

Following an action-packed run-off, it was claimed by Brett Badstuebner and Dalray Django from Mole Creek.

Saturday saw the running of the The Old Wool Store Maiden Draft with 22 new and upcoming riders contesting.

The Maiden Championship went to a new member, Sarah Woodruff from Richmond on her Australian stockhorse Eurella Apollo who scored 93, with runner up Isabelle Greenhill and Foursons Sapphire close behind on 90. 

Club honorary members Veronica and Stuart Hirst have sponsored the Ladies Draft for many years and presented winners Amy Grubb and Everhope Jersey Girl with their awards.

Amy scored 144 points, with young Westbury rider Gemma King on Diego on 95 for second place.

Ken Rundell and Bodean, originally from Gippsland but now native to Deloraine, won the Kent Saddlery Men’s Draft with 167,from Tom Steele and Wren from Lemont on 153.

The K&D Monks Mini Led Cutout featured six of the club’s youngest riders with Patrick Burbury and Brosie impressing the judge on 22. Twin brother Jamie Burbury again on Brosie was runner up on 21.

The Blackley Pipelines & Irrigation Teams Draft was hotly contested by 12 teams of three.

The winning team of Tom Steele, Isabelle Greenhill and Will Shoobridge took the money home with a full course of 87.

Sunday saw a field of 32 compete in the Smarty Rugs Novice Draft, with Isabelle Greenhill and Foursons Sapphire from Lemont scoring 158 over the two rounds to take home the spoils.

Runner up was Amy Grubb and Everhope Jersey Girl from Strathroy Pastoral Estate at Breadalbane on 100.

Tom and Meg Archer, from Westbury sponsored the Junior Cattle Working Challenge, run over two rounds on Saturday and Sunday.

Winner was Matthias Badstuebner and Dalray Django from Mole Creek scoring 100, with newcomers Jasmine Howard and Shagmoore Shirley from Cressy runners up on 90.

AWN Rural have been great supporters of the Juvenile Riders for several years, and this event saw Mole Creek’s Ada Badstuebner and Greenacres Pearl take first placing on 147, with runners up Marli King and Riverdale Idaho from Westbury on 81.

The ESP Photography prize for Best Presented Youth rider was won by Matthias Badstuebner and Misty.

Lindsay Transport and Tanner Spurs combined to sponsor the Restricted Open Draft, which featured 17 of our best Open horses and riders.

The winner was Cressy supermum Shani Barwick on Dart, scoring 162 and runner up was Ken Rundell and Bodean from Deloraine, on 108.

The Meridian Horse Transport Champion of Champions Top 7 Shoot Out saw all event champions compete in a one-round status-free shoot out to finish the weekend, with the Ladies Champion Amy Grubb and Everhope Jersey Girl taking out the win with 87, closely followed by the Maiden Champion’s Sarah Woodruff and Eurella Apollo on 85. 
The Cremorne Suffolk Best Presented Rider prize over the weekend was Isabelle Greenhill.

Gippsland Judges Alan Mitchell and Richard Clarke were full of praise for the event and its strong competition.

An Awards Luncheon will be held at the Bracknell Hotel at the end of May, where the Season Hi Point and Perpetual Trophy winners will be celebrated.
