UPDATE

TasFarmers president Ian Sauer has joined the tributes for Stuart Greenhill.

He said Stuart was an industry innovator who passed away too soon.
“He had positive impacts on agriculture and the people around him,” Mr Sauer said.

“His influence, especially in the vegetable industry, is going to be sorely missed.”

Mr Sauer said the state’s agricultural community was devastated and shocked by Stuart’s death.

“He had incredible knowledge and was dedicated to the agricultural sector.

“Stuart had a positive impact on the whole community and was able to get people to be innovative like him and follow him.”

The Tasmanian farming community is in mourning after the sudden death of Stuart Greenhill.

The Wesley Vale producer was a second-generation farmer for Birds Eye who, with his brother, farmed at Woodcote under the business name Greenhill Brothers.

He was also chairman of the Wesley Vale Irrigation Scheme.

In 2023, Stuart won the Simplot Australia Award for his contribution to the potato and vegetable industry.

Primary Industries Minister Gavin Pearce was one of those who paid tribute to him.

“A leader in the community, a man of the people and a bloody good mate to many of us - Stu Greenhill was a trailblazer,” Mr Pearce said.

“He knew what it took to get stuff done, but not just for himself- he'd do it for his community, for his people, for the next generations.”

Liberal Braddon MP Felix Ellis also expressed his sadness over the death.

“Stuart Greenhill was a beautiful man gone too soon.

“He made our world a better place with his kindness, strength, care and laughter.”

Stuart is survived by his wife, Kelly, and four children, Emily, Isabelle, Grace and Ruby.
