The Derwent Valley Council voted unanimously at its latest monthly meeting to support the future of the Bushy Park War Memorial Pool.

Councillors approved a motion to restore the pool and memorial to the required standard, which residents in the area have received well.

Details include authorising the General Manager to lodge the necessary planning application for the site at 601 Gordon River Road and engaging experts to determine how to keep the pool operational in the long term.

A follow-up report has been requested, detailing the costs involved as the project progresses.

Mayor Michelle Dracoulis said “it's an important step toward saving and restoring this much-loved community asset, a place rich with local history and treasured memories.”

She also thanked RSL Tasmania and the Bushy Park community for taking a passionate stand on the much-loved recreational and historical site.

The Bushy Park Pool and War Memorial closed in 2023 due to the construction of a new bridge over the Styx River.

Concerned residents rallied, worried about its future.

The Bushy Park War Memorial pool will stay closed in 2025, but should open once work is completed for the Summer of 2026.
