Entries Shine in photography competition

More than 140 photographs poured in for the Northern Midlands Council’s Choose the Scenic Route photography competition 2025; each image telling its own story of sweeping landscapes, charming townships, and the quiet beauty of everyday life in the Northern Midlands.

On Friday, October 17, judges chose winners in the Open Category and Junior Division.

One of the judges, Tracy Mallet, said shortlisting was incredibly tough because the standard was so high.

“We looked closely at composition, sharpness, tone lighting, and how each image spoke to the theme,” she said.

“The finalists have produced photographs that are both technically strong and emotionally resonant.

“The judging panel examined every detail - composition and eyelines, lighting and colour, sharpness, and most importantly, how each photo captured the essence of Choose the Scenic Route.

To honour this creativity, the Council will host an exhibition of the finalists’ works at the Campbell Town Recreation Ground from Saturday, January 10 to Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

Visitors will not only enjoy the stunning display but also have the chance to vote for the People’s Choice Award.

“The response has been outstanding - more than 140 entries that capture the spirit, beauty and character of our Northern Midlands,” Mayor Mary Knowles said.

“I encourage everyone to visit the exhibition, cast a vote for the People’s Choice Award, and join us on Australia Day as we celebrate our talented photographers.

“Our thanks and gratitude to all our contributors who participated.

“The winners of the Open and Junior categories will be awarded during Australia Day event in Campbell Town on Monday, January 26, 2026 - a fitting occasion to celebrate creativity and community pride.”
