Crowds at last year's Brighton Show.

The Brighton Show is celebrating 80 years since its first edition this Sunday, with organisers saying it is now the second-biggest agricultural show in Tasmania behind Royal Hobart.

There will be no truck display this year after vehicles caused around $21,000 worth of damage to Gunn Oval during the 2025 show, forcing planned cricket games to be rescheduled.

The Brighton Agricultural Society ended up paying for the damage following a dispute with the local council.

Other vehicles will be allowed on the oval, and the ute show will go ahead this year.

Brighton Agricultural Society president Geoff Jackson said more than 30,000 people attended last year’s show and was hoping those numbers would increase.

“The sheep, cattle and goat numbers are a bit up from last year as well.”

Mr Jackson said he attributed the high numbers to it being a family show.

“But we still have everything that you would have at an agricultural show – all the things we had back in the early days of the Brighton Show.

“We’ve got horses, an old machinery display, a dog high-jump contest, and a yurt competition.”

The Brighton Show will run between 8am and 5pm on November 8.

A family pass, which covers two adults and three children, is $40; adults pay $15 each; entry for kids between the ages of 5 and 15 is $6; and children under 5 can enter for free.
