Goats and sheep get their day at Hobart Show

Kirrasumm Kidz goat stud at Pawleena has taken out Best of Breed Australian Miniature and Best Exhibit in Show at the Royal Hobart Show goat section judged by Lyndy Bowden on Saturday.

Judging of goats, sheep and cats all took place in the former market pavilion at the front of the Hobart Showgrounds ahead of the official show day to be held at the Regatta Showgrounds on October 22 and 24.

Stud owner Kirralee Hoffman said that her show team did her proud with Lil Ruby Red being the highlight of a successful day, winning with numerous champion, reserve champion and runner up best udder awards.

In the dairy goat section Highveld Saanen Dairy goats at Lachlan dominated with second lactation Saanen Highveld Katherine-Pixie winning Best In Show and Best Udder.

The stud, operated by Steve Baldock who is also the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania goat section councillor, also produced Best Buck Kid, Best Doe and Best Kid overall.

In the sheep section the white Suffolk breed was the most prominent, with section convenor Ken Gatehouse saying the standard of entries was as good as he’s ever seen.

He was particularly pleased to see Oatlands District School exhibiting for the first time at Hobart Show in what was a well supported junior judging and junior handling categories.

Maurice and Imogen Baldock’s Mountain Mist White Suffolk Stud at Nook excelled on the day, taking out Supreme Exhibit, Supreme Champion Group and Supreme Champion Ewe.
