Labor takes King Island

King Island voters were in-tune with the swing towards the Labor Government on Saturday, with Labor’s Anne Urquhart out-polling the Liberal’s Mal Hingston at both Currie and Grassy thanks to massive swings.
In Currie, Ms Urquhart polled 232 votes compared to Mr Hingston’s 228 with a 21 per cent swing in her favour, while in the smaller Grassy booth she polled 41 votes to Mr Hingston’s 25 with a swing of 18 per cent.
On a two-party preferred basis, Mr Hingston very narrowly won Currie 49.84-50.16 per cent, while Ms Urquhart won Grassy 59.60-40.20 per cent.
In total, 761 votes were cast on King Island, almost exactly the same number as at the 2022 Federal election.
