Two essential upgrades for Quercus Park at Carrick – more toilets and firefighting infrastructure - could be secured sooner rather than later following a pre-election funding announcement by the Liberal party today.

Liberal candidate for Lyons Susie Bower said that under a Liberal Government $1 million would be made available to Rural Youth Tasmania to deliver vital fire safety and amenity upgrades at Quercus Park which it needs for major events in the future such as Agfest and Party in the Paddock.

She said the upgrades will support Rural Youth to continue the excellent work they do to support regional communities and local businesses.

“I am so proud to be able to support Rural Youth to get these projects across the line,” she said.

“Agfest is such an important event for regional communities across Tasmania, and these fire safety and amenity upgrades will be crucial to ensuring that Quercus Park continues to be open and accessible for years to come.”

“Agfest is a major economic driver for regional Tasmania. It brings nearly $26 million to the region’s economy annually and sees more than 50,000 people walk through the gates each year. Securing Agfest, as well as other events like the Magic Millions Horse Sales and Party in the Paddock, is an absolute necessity for regional Tasmania.”

Half of the money would go towards ensuring that the grounds have adequate fire suppression systems, a requirement for Agfest and other events to be hosted at Quercus Park.

The remaining $500,000 will go towards the construction of new toilet blocks at Quercus Park, with modern fittings and disability access.
