JackJumpers coach Scott Roth has been named Tasmania’s first Biosecurity Ambassador.

The role is part of Mr Roth’s broader work as Tasmanian Ambassador and is covered by a $95,000 contract running until April 30, 2027.

As Biosecurity Ambassador, he will be promoting the organisation’s “basics community awareness campaign”, which will urge Tasmanians “to make the most of our home court advantage”.

The campaign will remind Tasmanians to check their bags, come in clean, stay on the path, and report anything unusual.

Mr Roth said he was proud to support the initiative.

"When I arrived in Tasmania, one of the things that immediately stood out was how passionate people are about this place,” he said.

"Whether it's our environment, our industries, our communities or our way of life, there is so much worth protecting.

"In basketball, we know that winning starts with the basics.

“Success comes from teamwork, preparation and everyone doing their job. Biosecurity is no different.”

Primary Industries Minister Gavin Pearce said that Mr Roth had become one of Tasmania’s most respected figures.

“Scott’s ability to connect with people from all walks of life is second to none, and I couldn’t be happier to announce him as our inaugural Biosecurity Ambassador,” Mr Pearce said.

“Biosecurity is vitally important to our island state, and it’s a responsibility that falls to all of us.

“We want to see more people in the community understand the important role they play in safeguarding what makes our state special.

“Whether you're travelling, exploring the outdoors or out on farms, do the biosecurity basics.”
