I can hardly believe that KI's tiny little Council think they have the right to censor what artists portray and what can be hung in the public gallery. It might be happening in America but this is a tiny corner of Australia for goodness sake! The number in question is also about America. Nothing to do with Australia let alone KI! I know the painting in question. Yes it signifies the violence against women that was portrayed in Margaret Atward's book Handmaids Tale, but if anything it is thought provoking for those who know the story, and meaningless for those who don't. A child could look at it and not be distressed. Recently the Gallery also hosted an exhibition that addressed the impacts of climate change. Another thought provoking exhibition which encourages us all to think beyond our little square, or in this case, beyond our little island. Get a life guys! NO artist censorship on KI.
