Longford Show Grand Champion Fleece awarded

The first Champion Fleece has been judged in the officially dedicated Tom Talbot Wool Shed at the Longford Showgrounds, ahead of tomorrow’s 168th Longford Show.
Superb Merino fleece from Bothwell property Rockford was judged Grand Champion, scoring 82 points and weighing in at 11.76kg.
Owner Scott Reardon was also proud to be awarded ribbons for Most Valuable Fleece and Champion Stud.
Judge Ross Young said that the fleece from Rockford is consistently excellent and rated some of the best in Tasmania, often winning at Campbell Town and at Bendigo.
“They cut enormous weights and there are two fleeces from his ewes here and they’re 7kg which is amazing – he’s an outstanding manager who lives and breathes wool.”
An outstanding local entry from Forton, at Epping, owned by Anthony Gun, was awarded Best Local Fleece with a score of 80 and weighing in at 7.5kg.
Judge Jim Young said it was such an outstanding fleece that the weight of the fleece didn’t really come into the judging.
The fleece on show ranged in micron through to the 10.7 ultrafine.
