Lyell Highway temporarily fully re-opened

The Department Of State Growth has advised that they've temporarily re-opened the closed lane on the Lyell Highway at Plenty for the Christmas and New Year period. Between the 19th of December 2025 and 4th of January 2026 there will be no lane closures but a reduced speed limit of 40kmh remains in place. 

Work will restart at the site on the 5th of January and the single lane closure will be reinstated.

Work to fix the original September 2024 landslip finally started in August 2025, but a second severe weather event caused more damage in October 2025.It's expected that the project will be completed in mid-January 2026, weather permitting.
