Ready to teel off for breast cancer trials.

Members of the Longford Golf Club “Teed Off for Breast Cancer Trials” last Wednesday - an event close to the hearts of many members and their families.

A fundraising initiative of Breast Cancer Trials, Tee Off invites clubs across Australia to combine their love of golf with their passion to raise funds for breast cancer clinical trials research.

This year, breast cancer is estimated to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian women. Every day, 58 people are diagnosed and nine of those will lose their life to breast cancer.

Longford Ladies hosted a highly successful event and raised $1000 through a $10 entry fee, a raffle, donations and the sale of chutney, to support medical trials and research to identify new and effective breast cancer treatments.

This year, 36 players, including 11 men, teed off on a beautiful sunny day, all wearing a touch of pink to show their support for such an important fundraiser.

The Club was exceptionally pleased to welcome two Sunshine Coast players, Matthew Doolan and Michael Brodie, who joined in the event while visiting the State to play in the Launceston Open, at the Launceston Golf Club.

Division one for the men saw Matthew Doolan emerge the winner with 37 stableford points, followed by the Club’s own lifetime member, Lindsay Rhodes on 35.

Division 2 for men was won by Ian Woolridge on 24.  The ladies division one saw Debbie Heron win narrowly with 34 points from Jane Harrison on 33. Division two for the ladies had Penny Foster victorious on a count back from Katrina Von Stiglitz, winning with 36 points.

Since Tee Off began in 1996, golf clubs and their members throughout Australia have raised more than $3.6 million for Breast Cancer Trials.

Breast Cancer Trials is a group of world-leading breast cancer doctors and researchers based in Australia and New Zealand committed to finding better treatments and prevention for people affected by breast cancer through clinical trials research. To learn more visit www.breastcancertrials.org.au
