An emerging Tasmanian indoor cricket team has notched up its first win at the National Indoor Cricket Championships in Perth, Western Australia, with local players Levi Springer of Perth and James Lamb of Longford contributing to the success.

Northern Tasmania player Levi Springer, who is part of the Cricket Tasmania Emerging Tigers Program, had a hugely successful tournament at last year’s Championships in Victoria where he finished top of the leader board for the competition including 148 runs and 12 wickets, was runner up for player of the tournament for the U16 boys and selected for the Australian All Stars U16 boys Indoor Cricket team.

Returning to the Nationals, this time in the U18 squad, alongside James Lamb, he said he was looking forward to the opportunity for the boys to play at the highest level, to showcase the talent of all the players, and to represent their State.

The squad had been training hard, alternating between Hobart and Launceston, and it’s starting to pay dividends after a winless Nationals last year.

Indoor cricket in northern Tasmania is seeing a significant rise in participation, largely due to the recent launch of Nitro Arena in Youngtown.

This new facility is a vital addition, providing not only a much-needed space for local competitions but also valuable training opportunities for players from the region who compete at national level.

This year, Tasmania has four teams competing in WA: U14, U16, U18, and Open Women’s.

Now halfway through the week-long competition, they will be looking to finish strong.

Indoor cricket offers valuable professional opportunities for players and officials, while also serving as a complementary sport to outdoor cricket.

It plays a key role in supporting the development and maintaining the fitness of outdoor cricketers during the winter months.

Both new and experienced players have opportunities to get involved, with options available in both the north and south of the state.
