Julie Collins reappointed as federal Agricultural Minister

Tasmanian federal MP Julie Collins has retained her agricultural, fisheries and forestry portfolio in Anthony Albanese’s new ministry.
However, she has lost her role as Small Business Minister, which instead went to Anne Aly.
The Prime Minister announced his new cabinet on Tuesday afternoon following Labor’s federal election win.
Not only did the party stay in government, but it also increased the number of seats it held by 16.
The party is also in the hunt for an additional three seats, which are still undecided.
Following her reappointment as the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Ms Collins thanked Mr Albanese for entrusting her with the role and said it was a great honour to continue representing Australian farmers and producers.
“I am proud of our Government’s record of delivery for Australia’s farmers and producers, and I cannot wait to keep building on this effort,” she said.
My promise to Australia’s farmers and producers is that I will never stop listening and engaging with you, so I can be a true representative for you in the Albanese Labor Government.”
Salmon Tasmania, the peak industry body for aquaculture in the state, welcomed the reappointment of Ms Collins.
“We look forward to working closely with Minister Collins to support a strong and sustainable future of innovation, and to ensure best practice in Australia’s aquaculture and fisheries,” a Salmon Tasmania spokesperson said.
“Tasmania’s salmon industry plays a critical role in regional communities and the national economy, and we welcome the opportunity to continue constructive engagement with the Minister as we tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Ms Collins’ reappointment was also met with positivity by the National Farmers’ Federation President David Jochinke.
“We need strong leadership to tackle the big issues facing farmers, and that work must start now,” Mr Jochinke said.
“We’re calling on the Prime Minister and Minister Collins to visit drought-hit regions within the Government’s first 30 days.
“Farmers are doing it tough and they need to see leadership on the ground.”
Ms Collins has been the Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry since May 2024 following a cabinet reshuffle.
She has been the Federal Labor MP for Franklin since 2007 and previously held the portfolios of housing, homelessness and small business.
