Longford Poultry show a rare treat

A healthy 445 entries have been received for the Tasmanian Rare Breeds Poultry Club Inc Annual Show and Purebred Poultry Auction on Saturday, July 19, at Longford Showgrounds.
Club president Julie Devlyn said that it’s great to see a turnaround in the decline of recent years with poultry, especially rare breeds, being more popular than ever.
“We’ve done some re-branding, concentrated on becoming a more inclusive club and at this show we’ve introduced a People’s Choice award which all make for more interaction and encourage new members,” she said.
The show will be officially opened by Craig Farrell MLC at 10am and judges will be Michael Holmes (rare breed), Neil Penny (rare variety) and Joel Stingle (eggs).
A helmsmen auction will take place in the background, there will be a meatbox raffle and food and drink vendors will be on site.
“This will be the largest club show in Tasmania this year and waterfowl will be our feature birds,” Julie said.
“Our rare ducks and geese will be vying for Champion Waterfowl Rare Variety and Rare Breed titles and overall Champion of Show.”
“We also have Champion Novice and Champion Junior Exhibitor of Show and Champion Plate of Eggs.
“It’s election day so while everyone is out and about we’d love to see people call in and see an amazing display of poultry and to vote for their favourite.”
The Show Schedule can be found at www.tasrarepoultry.com or on the Tasmanian Rare Breeds Poultry Club Inc Facebook page.
