Quamby bulls for all seasons
THIS year’s Quamby Poll Hereford team is an outstanding group of bulls right through the catalogue, both in their excellent EBV’s, as well as being soft coated, easy doing growthy bulls.
They have a good balance of calving ease EBVs, along with strong growth, high milk and high carcase EBVs.
Quamby Plains’ aims for their clients is to improve their profitability through genetics, so their cattle perform well in all types of seasons.
Fertility is number one in importance, as all cows and heifers must rear a live calf.
Quamby Plains prides itself on the temperate of the bulls and this year’s team are no exception.
Quamby Plains has introduced new exciting sires in this year’s V drop of bulls. These sires include Matariki Nautical (NZL), who is siring exceptionally attractive and profitable bulls, with great volume.
He is in the top 1% in the breed for EMA and IMF, top 4% for milk, has strong growth and positive calving ease.
Other New Zealand sires breeding well are Koanui Milton and Limehills Stellar. Another new sire who is breeding exceptionally well is Wirruna Saul.
He was used over our heifers, with great success. He is in the top 1% for milk, top 2% for gestation length, top 3% for 200DG and 400DG, with very positive calving ease and great carcase attributes.
Quamby Plains stud cattle are run along side 220 commercial cows and a sheep operation of 3500 ewes. This puts emphasis on performance under high stocking rates, to which they must perform. All females are run in large contemporary groups and any female that does not meet our set criteria is culled. All cows and rising two-year-old heifers must rear alive calf and then get back in calf to stay on at Quamby Plains.
All bulls have been independently assessed for structural soundness and scanned by Roger Evans, from Bovine Scanning Services, Tamworth. Structural integrity is very important to Quamby Plains.
All bulls are freighted to Flinders Island, King Island and Melbourne for free.
Quamby Plains welcomes inspection by appointment prior to the sale.
Quamby Plains Poll Herefords 42nd Annual Bull sale will be held on Thursday, April 9 from 1pm. A slight change in time from previous years.
