Rockliff and Libs look likely to be returned

Jeremy Rockliff and his Liberal Government look set to return to Government after yesterday’s State election.
At the conclusion of counting last night, the Liberals have 14 seats, Labor 10, the Greens 5, and there are four independents.
Overall, the Liberals recorded 40 per cent of the vote (+3.3 per cent); Labor 26.1 per cent (-2.9 per cent); the Greens 13.9 per cent (unchanged), the Nationals 1.6 per cent, and independents and others 18.4 per cent.
Claiming victory last night, Premier Jeremy Rockliff said that the people of Tasmania had “voted no confidence” in the Labor Party, and had re-endorsed his Liberal Government.
“It is our team, the Liberal party, who will achieve the most seats in this election, with a significantly increased vote,” Mr Rockliff said.
“I intend to go to the Governor and ask her to recommission the Government so we can get on with the job for Tasmania.”
Despite this, and the swing against his party, Opposition Leader Dean Winter refused to concede.
“The result of this election is that the Liberals will have the most seats, but it is uncertain as to how they will achieve a majority,” Mr Winter said.
“Another election is not an option, which means we need to figure this out.”
Counting will resume today; however the full distribution of preferences won’t take place until after the close of postal ballot receipts on 29th July.
