Agfest Day 1

RURAL Youth Tasmania is gearing up to celebrate its 75th anniversary and celebrate three-quarters of a century of empowering young Tasmanians in rural communities.

The milestone will be a tribute to the thousands of members – past and present – who have shaped the organisation into the vibrant, community-driven force it is today.

Former and current members are invited to join in a series of celebratory events on July 5, including an afternoon tea and dinner.

Rural Youth president Amber Bramich said it’s a time to reconnect with old friends, share stories, and reflect on the organisation’s enduring legacy and the positive impact it has made across Tasmania’s rural landscape.

“This anniversary is not just a celebration of our history, but of the people who have made Rural Youth what it is,” she said.

“I’m incredibly proud to lead such a strong and resilient organisation – one that has thrived for 75 years thanks to the dedication and passion of our volunteers.

“I look forward to meeting members from across the generations and celebrating everything we’ve achieved together.”

The anniversary celebrations will highlight the progress Rural Youth has made in supporting leadership, community service and rural development.

It has five clubs in the South, two in the North West and three in the North.

The organisation was formed on July 5, 1950, and was officially called the “Junior Farmers’ Club of Tasmania” and referred to as the “Junior Farmers’ Movement”.

In August, 1961, it became the “Junior Farmers’ Federation of Tasmania”.

On July 1, 1966, the name was officially changed to Rural Youth Organisation of Tasmania.

Rural Youth is the backbone of the highly successful Agfest field days and annual Young Farmer of the Year competition.

It organises social and fundraising events, governance training, study tours, a forklift course, RSA certification and much more for its members.
