Tasmanian Mountain Cattlemen’s Association Annual Get Together returning
The Tasmanian Mountain Cattlemen’s Association will return to a private property for its Annual Get Together on January 30, marking a welcome shift back to the traditional countryside where cattlemen have traditionally gathered and worked.
Following many successful years of holding the event in the lowlands, the Association is delighted to move back into the foothills of the Great Western Tiers, to the Green family farm of Billopp at Cressy.
TMCA president Jessica Whatley said that a Sunday trail ride through the property will be a highlight for riders and families alike.
“The TMCA thanks the Green family for its generosity – its support reflects a shared understanding of the importance of maintaining cattlemen’s traditions and providing opportunities for hands-on stock work in a genuine bush setting,” she said.
Founded in 1986, the Tasmanian Mountain Cattlemen’s Association will celebrate 40 years in March 2026.
The Annual Get Together has long been a cornerstone event, bringing together cattlemen and women, horsemen and their families to share skills, stories and camaraderie built around working stock and good horsemanship.
The 2026 Get Together will be held from January 30 to February 1, offering a full weekend of family-friendly activities including camping, entertainment and traditional cattlemen’s events.
These events include the handy stock horse competition, walking race and billycan races.
The centrepiece of the weekend is the Championship event, where open and junior riders compete in practical traditional horsemanship challenges such as cattle handling, whip-cracking targets and obstacle work that mirrors everyday cattle work.
A “Striplings Championship” will also be held for younger riders in an enclosed arena, encouraging the next generation to build confidence and skills in a safe environment.
Championship entries will open soon, with a full program and sponsor acknowledgements available in local rural outlets and online at tmca.net.au
