I appreciate that he’s new to the job but I’m a bit cynical about this.
Was the potato virus really detected on his first day on the job? Aside from the fact that biosecurity hadn’t found it in the two years they say it’s been here, was it really discovered on that day? More likely the news was buried during the election to avoid news of another biosecurity failure? Convenient timing otherwise!
As for criticising Albanese for the biosecurity levy, it was first attempted by the Libs and failed so where was he then? He does realise that the levy is meant to prop up biosecurity funding which had been under more and more pressure as years go by? Perhaps he should consider one for Tasmania. He could start with who ever imports dirty machinery into Tasmania who probably introduce diseases and weeds, As for his support for NLIS, is he going to do something about the lack of compliance? Didn’t Tas Country just run a story on this?
He’s got a good background so hopefully he puts a rocket up biosecurity who is a toothless tiger and ineffective with the funding and culture they’ve got.
