With Varroa and DWV becoming such serious threats, I believe that good record keeping and regular monitoring will become increasingly important for beekeepers. Having a clear history of each colony can help identify changes earlier and make better decisions.
I am currently developing a free beekeeping application (name is Apian) focused on making hive management and inspection records easier to organize. The idea is not to replace the beekeeper’s experience, but to help preserve observations and turn them into useful data over time.
I also think that new technologies, including AI, could eventually help beekeepers reduce the amount of manual work involved in recording inspections and analysing colony development.
