250 kids take part in annual Easter Egg Hunt
Easter celebrations in the Derwent Valley kicked off at Arthur's Square in High Street New Norfolk early on Saturday morning, with the biggest turn out on record seeing over 250 "egg‑cited" kids for the annual children's Easter egg hunt.
An initiative of The Derwent Valley SES, The New Norfolk Fire Brigade, The New Norfolk Market and also supported by the Derwent Valley Council, the annual Easter egg hunt combines community spirit and generosity with many volunteers selflessly donating time and Easter goodies for the cause.
Kids set off at 10 am on the hunt for chocolate eggs and other treats hidden by the Easter Bunny in the garden of Arthurs Square on his pre-dawn visit. Many people left the hunt with chocolate grins also commenting on how much fun they had and also commending the work by dedicated volunteers to organise the event.
"We're absolutely blown away by the turnout and the magic that happens when a community comes together" Market Operator Jessica Cosgrove said
Combined with New Norfolk's Easter Market the children's Easter Egg hunt kick started Easter celebrations in the Derwent Valley, which continues to grow in popularity each year combined with the running of the Tasmanian Autumn Festival.
