Boyer received a boost today with the news that 24 million dollars worth of Federal funding has been granted to help pave the way to cleaner and greener future for the mills paper production.

The announcement comes after Boyer two week’s ago resolved a dispute with Aurora Energy over a multi-million dollar energy credit requirement.

Boyers’ new owners have been exploring options to move from its existing coal fired boiler operations to electric power and this funding boost will go a long way to seeing that happen.

This will involve moving from a single use papermaking site to a multi-use facility that can include developments in the production of a diverse range of paper grades, education and training facilities, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy and sustainable initiatives.

Labor's Rebecca White who was onsite today said "I’m proud to stand in partnership with the workers and management at the mill to make sure it can keep supporting local jobs and playing a vital role in our economy".

Derwent Valley Mayor Michelle Dracoulis who was also onsite today also welcomed the funding and said " I deeply appreciate the mill’s new owners for their conviction and commitment to a clean, green future for this industry. The Boyer Mill has been at the heart of New Norfolk for generations, and its future is closely tied to the security of employment and opportunity across the Derwent Valley".

The Federal Labor Party made a pre-election commitment to provide the 24 million dollars which will see 9 million dollars of upfront support over the first two years and a further 15 million to help with upgrades over the longer term.
