Tasmania SES issued a minor flood warning on Sunday for the Derwent Valley, which includes low-lying tidal-affected areas of Hobart, Bruny Island, Clifton Beach, Huonville, Geeveston, Dover, Southport, Dodges Ferry, Maria Island, Orford, Triabunna, Eaglehawk Neck, Port Arthur, and Lauderdale.

The "monitor conditions" advice warning has initially been put out for the next "48" hrs but should be expected to be put in place for all of this week.

The advice comes on the back of the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a coastal hazard warning for abnormally high tides for the Upper Derwent Valley, South East and East Coast Forecast Districts.

Super high "King Tide" activity will affect the upper tidal reaches of the Derwent River above New Norfolk, with Sunday’s high tide peaking at 1.73 metres at around 5.30 pm.

High tide activity will increase to 1.78 m on Tuesday night at around 7.30 pm and then decrease in size through to Friday.

During this time, low-lying areas could be impacted by flooding, which could be exacerbated by the amount of rain and snow that falls.

Warnings have also been issued to road users to expect dangerous driving conditions, with some roads possibly becoming flooded, which could lead to isolation.

Flood waters are always high risk; never walk, play, ride, or drive through any flood waters. Be ready to act quickly if the situation changes.
