The owners of the historic Glen Derwent historic estate at New Norfolk are staying put.
The historic property was operated by the Virtue family as a tourism venue, including a tearoom, accommodation, and campground onsite, and was also a popular wedding venue, until its closure due to increased costs in 2024.
The restored property was put on the market earlier this year.
Today, the owners Rob, Liz and Liam Virtue, announced they had sold the property to themselves, and would be staying put.
"We’re very excited to announce that we’re staying", they said.
"On 22 August 2016, we signed a contract to buy Glen Derwent. On 22 August 2024, our insurer of eight years advised they wouldn’t be renewing our commercial property insurance, leading to the closure of our business and a period of uncertainty where we tried to sell the property.
"Today, 16 August 2025, we have signed a contract to sell the property from our self managed superannuation fund to ourselves and one of our sons.
"Glen Derwent will be our multi-generational home and we will remain its custodians well into the future."
