All the fun from the Kempton Festival
The Kempton Festival on Sunday saw one of the more unusual and colourful sights when it comes to sheep, with the running of the Kempton Sheep Race.
Lauriston Lamb, the team of Tim and Catherine Johnson won the final and $500, after six hard-fought heats that involved 36 woolly lambs who were each sold for $50 to keen entrants.
Encouraged to make their way to the finish line by Alahrni Watkins and her sheepdog, there was plenty of cheering from the sidelines.
Southern Midlands mayor and retired farmer Edwin Batt officiated and declared a fair, as possible, race.
Sheaf tossing, barrel racing and shearing were just a few of the traditional country competitions that attracted hundreds through the gate.
