The Derwent Valley will be getting a new supermarket.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has approved a lease for a Coles supermarket for developer Tipalea, who recently purchased the proposed site for the supermarket's development at 120 Glebe Road or the Phoenix Garden Centre.
Research by the ACCC to determine whether or not the development would lessen competition in the area suggested that it wouldn't.
“The ACCC has determined that the acquisition may be put into effect as it considers that the acquisition is unlikely to have the effect of substantially lessening competition in any market,” the ACCC said.
“The acquisition would introduce a competing grocery retailer to the existing Woolworths supermarket plus IGA X-Press already in New Norfolk.”
