THE Tasmanian Shorthorns committee is very excited to announce the inaugural Spring Selection Genetics Sale.

Offering 20  semen packages from new and proven sires, it is a fantastic opportunity to secure some new genetics prior to spring joining or add into the tank for future use. There are stud packages on offer from North Eastern, Royston and Sillwood Tasmanian studs as well as Double K, Trojon, Bayview, Southcote, Sprys and Outback Shorthorns.

There are also commercial packages available for those looking to gain access to the hybrid vigour that the Shorthorn breed can add to their progeny.

This sale will be held from Monday, September 21  9am to Wednesday,  September 23, 8pm online, for further details head across to the Tasmanian Shorthorns Facebook page, search https://www.32auctions.com/springselectionsale or alternatively contact Chelsea on 0447 426 629.

The branch is also looking at ways to continue to encourage young people into the agricultural space and further their involvement within the Shorthorn breed.

The committee is offering two awards at the 2027 Tasmanian Junior Beef Expo in February.

One award is a donated entry fee plus a cash contribution towards travel to the 2027 Shorthorn Youth Expo in Dubbo each year. Applicants will be required to submit an application prior to the event plus participate in an interview throughout the event before a winner is decided. The second award is the Tasmanian Shorthorns encouragement award, open to all who entered for the 2027 Shorthorn Youth Expo award as well as any participants using Shorthorn cattle at the event.

The winner of this prize will receive $250 to put towards reimbursing their entry to the beef expo or putting it towards their entry fee for the following year.

Spring joining is nearly upon us and with this comes the need to secure bulls.

Our Tasmanian breeder’s directory includes contact details for studs that have bulls available by private treaty.
