The Australian debut of one of the world's most celebrated whisky events is happening in Tasmania.

Maltstock Down Under will be taking place at Ratho Farm at Bothwell between May 15 and 17.

It marks the first time Maltstock has been held outside of Europe.

Capped at just 100 people, the event will allow attendees to sample and learn about products from Tasmanian distillers.

Maltstock Down Under founder David Ligoff said Tasmania was the obvious place to hold the event.

“A distiller once told me that people will forget what you tell them and what they tasted, but they won’t forget how they were made to feel,” Mr Ligoff said.

“And that is what Tasmania and the Tasmanian whisky scene are all about.

“It was a no-brainer.”

The event features 20 “drinks with” sessions, five distillery visits and more than 80 whiskies to try.

Mr Ligoff said it was likely that future editions of Maltstock Down Under would take place in Tasmania.

Tickets for the event are around $1000 per person.
