North-east and east coast farmers will need to batten down the hatches during the next 24 hours with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a Severe Weather Warning and forecasting heavy rainfall on Wednesday.

Tasmania SES has also issued a Storm Advice – Stay informed for the North East and East Coast Forecast Districts with the areas most likely impacted being St Helens, Swansea, Scottsdale, Bicheno, Orford, Fingal, Scamander and surrounds.

These conditions may lead to fallen trees, branches and powerlines, flying objects which may cause injury, damage to homes, buildings and vehicles and dangerous driving conditions and potential road closures

If you are in or near the storm area, Tasmania SES advises:

  • If you have an emergency plan, check it now.
  • Make sure your emergency kit is ready.
  • Look after children and pets.
  • Check on family, friends and neighbours.
  • Stay indoors where possible.
  • Never shelter under trees or powerlines.
  • Secure loose outdoor items, including furniture and play equipment.
  • Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
  • Be ready for possible power, water, phone or internet outages.
