The state’s greyhound industry has launched a new website as part of a campaign aimed at reversing the decision to end the industry.

The Tasmanian government has legislation before the State's Upper House to ban greyhound racing in the State from 2029. The bill passed the Lower House of Parliament late last year.

In response, the Tasmanian greyhound industry has launched the website whatsnexttas.com.

An advertisement for the website reads “Jeremy Rockliff misled Tasmania – he adopted the Greens mainland agenda”.

Luke Gatehouse from Greyhounds Tasmania said he hoped to gain the attention of the public and reverse the government’s decision.

"The Tasmanian greyhound sector has no confidence in the government,” Mr Gatehouse said.

“They broke their commitments to the industry before the election to do a cynical deal to form government, then proposed legislation with no pathway for compensation or support for the hard-working Tasmanians for whom this is a living.

“We're going to campaign hard right up until the resumption of Parliament to stop this from going ahead.

“That's why we're launching a campaign to bring this to everyone's attention.”

Mr Gatehouse said other industries were at risk.

“We are just the first victims of Jeremy Rockliff's lust for power.

“The entire racing industry could be targeted just like recreational fishing and forestry to ensure he keeps his job."

Training Greyhounds on and off in this state NSW & America for 30 +years you could say that I would have a sound knowledge of the sport. Hearing Cassie Oconner speaking at a recent enquiry into the reason for closure of the sport. Stating that the death + 40 injuries being recorded already this year is the contributing factor. In Tasmania we have not got the services of fulltime specialist vets to I identify injuries early and treat them as required. Here in Tasmania we have and had experience muscleman over the years to service this area. The Greyhound muscleman worked with vets and gain the insights into the motion dynamics of the racing greyhound. Project 64 was a combination of 5 vets to examine the types of injuries the racing greyhound incurred over a period of 5 years. The government in my view has failed the greyhound industry in this state by rushing through closure in this state. The way forward in my view would to be establish prerace clearance check after every 3 races by a vet or in conjunction with an experience person in this area. This way forward would reduce any reportable injuries greatly. This government could employ persons to treat the dogs whilst injured. The greens are desperate for there own reasons to shut down a particular person in this sport.

Anonymous Re your incorrect statement on vets checks on greyhounds prior to kenneling on race day. They are only quick visual checks Fleas any standout issues. The examinations I am referring to after every 3 race starts take 30 to 40 minutes. These are done by experience vets muscleman who have the knowledge of the type of injuries incurred by the racing greyhound. It takes very good palpation skills to detect and find early stages and grades of injuries most grade 1/2 injuries can be resolved over 7 days. DR Jim Gannon's Tape explains the full description of common injuries and treatments.

After all this is done and dusted the federal government should in full force implement a rule if anyone in a governing body caught lying to anyone they are instantly terminated without any remunerations owed to them. Just like they have done in a country overseas. Wouldn't that stop all the anti's from lying and only the truth we hear and then and only then we would start trusting the government

Any one who makes promises to get elected and then breaks them for his own gain.is not a fit person to be in politics.and it is also a written law .

I hope you’re right on that one. If so needs to be held accountable.

Cassie O'Connor (Green member) has claimed 41 greyhounds were euthanised (I think in the past year). The vast majority of these relate to old age related health conditions. At the Joint Standing Committee on the ban on Wednesday Clare Robbins from the Hobart Greyhound Racing Club, told O’Connor 4 of those were her own dogs (all elderly with significant health issues -one in particular suffering horrifying fits). The Greens are spreading false and misleading information to promote their radical animal extremist views.

The reason (Welfare )This is all lies greyhounds are better looked after than most dogs we must follow strict rules.Welfare you say what about mental health obviously you don’t care total disregard for anything or anyone but yourself And the corruption party you have elected don’t know anything about greyhounds it’s embarrassing and disgusting

Every intelligent Tasmanian knows exactly why this decision was made. It has absolutely nothing to do with welfare issues. The fact that Jeremy Rockliff sent a letter of support to industry participants 2 days prior to the last election and 3 weeks later made the announcement of his intention to ban greyhound racing, speaks of utter betrayal by a politican desperate to retain his seat in Parliament. A despicible act by someone who obviously has no integrity

Mr Rockliff wrote to to the Greyhound Community via the Northwest (Devonport) Club, only a matter of days before the Election, offering his full support of the Sport of Greyhound Racing and the people involved in it; only to recant completely just after the Election and ban the Sport. How is this not seen as theft of votes? Under the Electoral Act, section 329(1), The Act, "makes it a criminal offence to print, publish or distribute or cause, permit or authorise to be printed, published or distributed any matter or thing during the relevant period that is likely to mislead or deceive an elector in relation to the casting of a vote."
Mr Rockliff STOLE votes by writing that letter, and it would be interesting to know, as it was such a close election, if the "stolen votes" would have made a difference. Why hasn't he been charged with this offence?
