Tasnetworks and the government haven’t negotiated in good faith. The SBP should also cover near neighbours as property values will be greatly affected by these or greenfield lines in the future. Other States are paying compensation to neighbours but Tasnetworks and the government are ignoring this and just proposing a token Community Benefit Scheme that is designed to basically to buy social licence from the broader region from people who aren’t even affected. Their behaviour has been disgraceful for over 5 years now. Most landholders and near neighbours would rather have no transmission particularly when we can see this project being such a dud for Tasmanian electricity consumers and the State even if it is a good deal for the mainland and a few foreign owned wind swindle factory owners.
The $2b+ that Tasmania will have to find could be spent much more wisely on strategy generation lowering the cost of power and creating decent State growth as opposed to increasing power prices and potentially seeing businesses struggle to pay for power and reducing staff and the consequence migration of people to the mainland.
