Richmond Walnuts for sale

The owners of Richmond Walnuts are selling their business.

The 48-hectare farm produces around 60 to 70 tonnes of walnuts each year.

Elders Real Estate agents Jodie Rolf and George Shea are selling the property.

Ms Rolf said it was a unique offering.

“Not only is there an income-earning opportunity, but it's an established business on a walk-in, walk-out basis,” she said.

“It’s got an extensively renovated family home that doesn’t come up very often in the Coal River Valley region.

“It’s got a lifestyle appeal, but it’s a true income earling opportunity.”

Ms Rolf said there had already been considerable interest in the business.

“It hasn’t been just from local farmers, we’ve had international clients reach out, as well as people from interstate.”

Richmond Walnuts owner Amber Smith said she and her young family no longer had the time to maintain and run the farm.

But she said walnut farming was not super difficult.

“We had no idea what we were doing when we bought this place, and farming walnuts is a really simple process,” Ms Smith said.

“You need a bit of food, water and love, and how technical you go beyond that is your choice.

“The systems that we’ve been running for years now have seemed to work for us – we were able to increase our yield just by doing that.”

The farm is for sale via expressions of interest and includes all the walnut trees on the land and the homestead on the property.

“I’d love for someone to take care of the orchard and cherish it and build on the brand that we’ve created,” Ms Smith said.

“It’s something that I’m super proud of, and it’s a brand that is in supermarkets across Australia.

“There’s enough walnuts and demand for them to become a staple in pantries.

“It would be a dream one day to walk into Woolworths and Coles and see Richmond Walnuts on a supermarket shelf.”

Ms Smith said selling the business and farm was bittersweet.

“It’s a sad chapter to say goodbye to this place.

“But I feel that the time has come for us as a family to move onto a new chapter.”
