Smithton Truck wash now operational

The Smithton Truck Wash is now operational.

It is the second such facility to open in the North-West recently, following the Burnie Truck Wash.

The Smithton facility includes three truck wash bays with hoses and equipment for the trucks to use and an effluent dump station.

The state government contributed $1.5 million to the project, the Commonwealth put forward $1.4 million for the facility, and TasWater provided $500,000.

Cradle Coast Authority said Philip Reid said bringing the Smithton Truck Wash Facility into operation has been an absolute priority for the region given the high volume of livestock transport in and out of Smithton.

“CCA congratulates TasWater on completion of a successful project, and we thank 

both the Federal and State Governments for their critical financial contributions to 

this facility.” Mr Reid said. 

“The completion of a second facility this year provides an essential service for 

farmers and transport operators, supporting high biosecurity standards while 

improving animal welfare and road safety for everyone using our roads.” 

TasWater Project Delivery General Manager Tony Willmott said he was proud to be delivering infrastructure that benefits both industry and the community.

“This project demonstrates TasWater’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that 

protects the environment, supports sustainable waste management and delivers 

lasting benefits for Tasmania.”
